New Social Network Taking on Facebook Groups
Gen Z doesn’t want to use Facebook but has had to for events and group messaging. IRL, a two-year-old startup, is the solution. Its mission is to help people “do more together,” and with 12 million monthly users, they’re on track to do so.
Your New Word of the Month: “Pressed”
The youth are at it again. They are calling people “pressed” when they are stressed, upset, or annoyed. “If you’re pressed about something it basically means you ain’t about that life or you find it pressing”.
For example, when a TikTok bro says something misogynistic, you better believe people will be “pressed.”

Apple’s annual conference showed off big changes at its recent 2021 keynote.
Some new updates include:
- SharePlay: allows you to watch or listen to content with others over FaceTime
- Live Text: AI will digitize text in your photos
- Apple ID will soon let you store your ID in digital form
You Swiped, But “Are You Sure?”
The popular dating app is attempting to reduce the number of hateful messages sent on its platform with a feature called “Are You Sure?” which asks users if they’re positive they want to send a possibly offensive message. Other companies have launched similar AI features, including Instagram which rolled out warnings for potentially offensive captions in 2019.
Netflix X Fashion
With subscription rates dropping, Netflix opened a new line of revenue – merch. They’ll be dropping exclusive items related to their original shows and working with up-and-coming designers along the way.
